This pattern is created using our popular yarn Alma – a true favorite for many. Alma is a tape yarn that gives the work both stability and durability, making it perfect for projects that need to last and retain their shape. In this guide, you can create your very own bag with our Alma tape yarn.

❯ Abbreviations
- R - Round
- St - Stitch
- SC - Single crochet
- Sl St - Slip stitch
- Ch - Chain
- Inc - Increase (2 SC in the same St)
- BLO - Back loop only
Step 1: Base
Note: The bag is crocheted with a double strand of Alma. You can use two strands of the same color, or combine 2 different colors.
The rounds are crocheted in individual rounds and not in a spiral. To finish each round, make a Sl St in the first St you crocheted in the round, then a Ch to get to height for the new round. (Image 3) This method starts from R2.

R1. Start with a Slip Knot and then make 19 Ch. The last Ch counts as a turning chain, skip it and start crocheting in the second St from the hook under the next R. (19) (Image 1)

R2. On the first side of the chain ⭢ 17SC, 3SC in the same St, on the second side of the chain ⭢ 17SC, 3SC in the same St (40)
R3. 1 Inc, 16SC, 1 Inc, 2SC, 1Inc, 16SC, 1Inc, 2SC (44)
Steel wire (optional): The bag tends to twist a little, I like to crochet a steel wire frame into the base to prevent this. To do this, shape the steel wire to the shape of the base. Then twist the ends together to "close" the frame. (Image 2) Crochet this in during the next R.

R4. BLO ⭢ 44SC all around (44)
Step 2: Crochet the height of the bag & handle
R5-16. (12 rounds) 44SC all around (44)
R17. 8SC, 10 Ch, skip 8 St, 14 SC, 10Ch, skip 8 St, 6SC (48) (Image 4)

R18. 8SC, 10SC on the chain, 14SC, 10SC on the chain, 6SC (48)
Step 3: Finishing
When the bag is finished, weave in all loose ends with a darning needle, making sure all threads are securely fastened before cutting them. Done!
