Note:

The pattern is based on the materials above, but there will be instructions on how to adjust if you have a different size clutch handle.

You can use several different yarns of ours for this bag. It is important to note that you may need more yarn if you have a larger size clutch handle.

Step 1: Base

Note: The base will be crocheted in individual rows. At the end of each row, make a PS to gain height for the new row, then turn your work. This setup will start from R2. (see image 2)

R1. Make 11 PS (the chain should be as long as the handle, see image 1), then make an extra puff stitch to gain height for the next round, total 12 PS (12)

Other size: Make a chain of PS as long as your handle + one extra for a turning chain.

R2-13. Make 11 JS along the chain of PS (12)

Other size: Make as many rounds as needed to create a base the same size as your opened handle.

The base should be the same size as the opened handle (see image 3)

Step 2: Walls

Note: When constructing the walls of the bag, we will no longer make a PS to gain height for the new round. Now you will make JS directly.

A JS is built up by 3 yarn overs that are then crocheted together. However, for the starting stitch and ending stitch, it will look a bit different. For the first stitch in each round, you will only make 2/3 yarn overs, mark the stitch as your first St. (see image 4). Then, make JS all the way around as usual with 3/3 yarn overs. When you have gone all the way around to the last stitch, make 4/3 yarn overs, where the last yarn over will be placed in the first marked St of the round. (see image 5) When you have closed the last stitch, the closure should be completely flat, no stitches should deviate from the round. (see image 6)

R14-23. Make 45 JS all the way around. (45)

Other size: Make as many rounds as needed to reach the desired height.

Check that the walls are high enough by folding them towards the center. If the edges meet, the walls are high enough (see image 7)

The next step is to crochet the last section with SC stitches which will be used to sew in the handle later. For the first row crocheted on the JS, make 2 SC in each JS. (see image 8) For the remaining rows, make 1 SC in each St.

The SC rows are crocheted in individual rows and not in a spiral. To close the row, make an SS in the first St of the row. (see images 9+10) Then make a CH to gain height for the new row. (see image 11) These stitches do not count as actual stitches, be careful not to crochet into these stitches so your stitch count doesn't accidentally increase.

R24-32. Make 90 SC all the way around (90) Cut a long thread for sewing.

Step 3: Sew in the handle

Place the handle against the rows of SC and sew the handle to the inside of the bag. The thread should be attached to the first row of SC and not to the JS row. (see images 12+13) Fasten and hide the remaining thread.

Step 4: Lining (optional)

Cut out the lining fabric:

Cut a piece of fabric that is 34x40cm (see image 16)

Other size: Measure the sides of your closed clutch handle and add it to the length of your clutch handle. (e.g., 9+9+20cm=38cm) This will be the width of your lining fabric.

To calculate the length, measure the height of your bag (without the handle) and multiply it by 2. (e.g., a height of 11cm multiplied by 2 results in 22cm, see image 15). Then add that length to the length of your base. The length is measured on the side where the bag opens, not on the sides with the closure. (see image 14) (e.g., 11+11+20cm= 42cm)

The inside of the bag is slightly smaller than the outside, so remove about 2cm from your width so that the lining doesn't become too large.

Sew the lining:

Fold the length in half so the right sides of the fabric are together. Sew a straight stitch (or by hand) along the sides. (see image 17)

Then fold up the corner. (see image 18) Place a ruler/measuring tape straight across the corner. Then pull the measuring tool until the edges measure 18cm (or the length of your clutch handle) (see image 19) Then sew a straight stitch there and do the same on the other side. Then cut off the corners. (see image 21) When you are done, you should have a square base with walls. (see image 20)

Sew on the lining:

Fold down the edge of the lining about 5mm and sew it with needle and thread just below the handle. (see image 22)

Secure and hide all loose threads, then it's finished!
